DRESS UP AND PLAY PRETEND

July 20, 2019 by Yusra Shafquat

A million subscribers on YouTube?  A thousand followers on Instagram? She had a trip to Bahamas? He seems so happy in his life! She got into university of her choice she didn’t even study for it? Such a pretty dress, such a cool car, such a rich kid,  such a popular kid. This century or every century has always been a game of dressing up and pretending; making things appear how they aren’t actually. People tend to get into inferiority complex when it comes to comparison with their acquaintances.

Students usually are intrigued by how cool the other person is in their school ,they over think how happy that person is, little do they know how insecure they get because they always have to be perfect from tip to toe, how tired they are with all the attention, how they always get highlighted in every big or small thing, but they don’t let it show they wear this character of pride, a character depicting  them as really  happy , in the end who wants to show their insecurity? We see people showing off themselves on their social media, girls their pretty hair, boys their jaw line or their cars but the person behind the screen gets triggered. Just like behind the scenes of a movie there are behind the scenes of a cool Instagram story, who knows the girl whose hair you envy has the same hair as you she just changes the way they look because she wants to be a prominent insta diva.

People get intrigued by huge weddings, however just for the sake of comparison and to paint a picture of them being very wealthy people crush themselves in debts, how them pretending to be so rich to afford such a grandiose wedding intrigued you, they  got the attention, they got the appreciation, the debt pain doesn’t feel much then . Seeing one of your friend get into the university of their choice and you think to yourself, “he didn’t even study for it, how is that even possible?”, whereas on the other side your friend didn’t expose himself because its way cooler to tell people he didn’t even study for it than tell people he pushed and worked hard to get into the university he wanted to. Amongst these entire situations you too dress up and pretend “YOU’RE SO HAPPY FOR THEM”.

Recently a trend started on social media to reveal unedited pictures or girls posting pictures without makeup or someone opens up and talks about how they hide their acne but now they have the guts to open up, we believe that’s the truth, EVEN THOSE PHOTOS AREN’T ORIGINAL, even they have some edit. It’s because nobody wants to show themselves exactly how they are. Every single being out there is pretending, pretending there is nothing wrong in their lives, pretending they are exactly the way they want their person of interest to see. Influenced by actor’s tiny waist or a rich friend, we compare our state with them , we find ourselves not worthy of them, forgetting they are human like us they too think and feel and live the same lives as us . They too have insecurities they too have several factor they don’t want to be revealed.

Our thoughts and assumptions about them , about their status puts us in a complex ,into depression making us feel zero whereas we play our game too; walk ,speak talk and act according to the situation not how we usually do ,appreciate someone for their success or beauty whereas deep down envying their existence  . One wants to compare, compare on how good your knowledge is, how you treat people, how much you benefited the society .Compare on how good your personality is, comparison on skin, color or body or pictures or popularity that can always be molded how one wants is one dumb thing. Own who you are, be who you are!
